WHO WE ARE
“Are those who know equal to those who know not? It is only men of understanding who will remember (i.e. get a lesson from Allah’s Signs and Verses)” (Qur’an, 39:9)
“ …Verily the Ulama (scholars/theologians) are the heirs of the Prophets, verily the Prophets do not leave behind gold nor silver (wealth), they only leave behind religious knowledge” (Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah)
The Jam’iyyatul Ulama Canada, Canadian Council of Muslim Theologians (CCMT) is a constituted federally Canadian registered non profit body of Muslim Theologians (Ulama, religious scholars). Its inception is to serve the socio-religious needs of the Muslim community residing in Canada. The organization is directed and managed by certified Muslim Theologians only, who have studied and graduated in Islamic universities in the field of Shari’ah.
HISTORY
With the concern of Shaykh Mawlana Abdullah Patel Kapodrawee (former principal of the famous Islamic university Falahe Darain Tadkwesar, India & great Religious Scholar & Muslim Theologian) and other senior Ulama/Scholars, in the early 1990’s the SHARIAH COUNCIL was established and since, worked primarily to resolve fiqh issues facing the Muslim community.
In December of 2000, as many Canadian born students graduated and returned from Islamic Universities, Darul-Ulooms and Madresas from different parts of the world, certified in the field of Shari’ah and Islamic theology, these graduates got together and met with Sh. Ml. Abdullah Patel to formally establish & activate the Shari’ah Council. Therefore a constitution and structure was prepared and a meeting was held with majority of the Ulama & Theologians who have graduated and are certified in the field of Shari’ah. Two general meetings were held with the Ulama of the GTA (26/10/02 & 14/12/02), wherein the Shura and executive bodies were elected, the constitution was unanimously finalized/approved and the formerly Shari’ah Council was transformed to “Jam’iyyatul Ulama Canada” Canadian Council of Muslim Theologians (CCMT).
